Post-Operative Care: Microphlebectomy
Microphlebectomy (also known as ambulatory phlebectomy) involves the removal of varicose veins through tiny punctures in the skin. It’s typically performed alongside EVLT to remove veins that remain visible or bothersome.
Key Aftercare Guidelines:
First 48 Hours
- Keep custom-fitted compression stocking(s) on for 48 hours.
- Mild oozing from incisions is normal (often anesthetic fluid).
- Resume normal activities but avoid heavy lifting, running, or extreme activity for 1 week.
- Take anti-inflammatories for swelling:
- Naproxen (220 mg twice daily) OR Ibuprofen (200–400 mg three or four times daily)
- Tylenol may be added for pain.
- Bruising is common—use ice packs (over stockings) if needed (15 minutes at a time).
48 Hours to 4 Weeks
- After 48 hours, remove initial stocking; try to keep steri-strip bandages on, even when showering.
- If steri-strips fall off and incision is oozing, cover with a regular bandage.
- Remove steri-strips after day 5.
- Wear a clean second stocking during waking hours (approx. 8 hours/day) for 1 week; continue longer if it improves comfort.
- Wash stockings in cold water, delicate/low dry—do not air dry.
- Tightness or pulled muscle sensation is normal—walking helps relieve this.
- Contact the clinic if you notice oozing, discharge, or signs of infection at incision sites.
Important Notes
- Healing progress will be reviewed at your follow-up appointment.
- Bring compression stockings to your follow-up visit.
