Compression’s Role in The Recovery Process

Support Your Recovery. Enhance Your Results.

At Stratford Vein Clinic, we are committed to ensuring long-term success following any varicose vein treatment. Whether you’ve undergone Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT), Microphlebectomy or Ultrasound guided Sclerotherapy, wearing medical-grade compression stockings is a key part of your post-procedure care plan.

There are different levels of compression therapy and the correct choice  is based on the level of disease and treatment—it’s a clinically proven way to support proper healing, improve circulation, and reduce the risk of complications. Stratford Vein Clinic staff have been trained to know which style, level of compression, will be best, as well as trained in the process of measuring.

Why Compression Stockings Matter

After vein treatments, your body begins the process of rerouting blood flow through healthier veins. Compression stockings help support this process by:

  • Reducing swelling and inflammation
  • Redirecting  blood flow to the deep system via perforators
  • Helping keep treated veins closed to ensure vessels walls can stick together and sclerose.

Compression stockings are truly a medical device and are mandatory to wear after any procedure offered at Stratford Vein Clinic. Measurements will be taken to ensure the best fit, style and level of compression needed.   If necessary, custom built stockings can be made to accommodate any body habits.

We proudly recommend Medi Canada’s line of medical compression stockings for post-treatment venous therapy. Medi Canada offers high-quality, physician-recommended garments that combine effective support with comfortable, breathable materials designed for everyday wear.

How Long Will I Need to Wear Them?

Post procedure compression is mandatory for 48 hours straight- no showering,  then for one to two weeks afterwards during the time you are on your feet the most (approximately 8 hours each day)

Each case is unique, so instructions for wear will depend on the individual situation.

Conservative Management and Maintenance

If a procedure is not right for you, Compression can be helpful to alleviate symptoms of varicose veins.  We can help determine, based on your level of disease, what level of compression and style might work best.

Once all procedures are complete, wearing a maintenance sock might be recommended for travel, long days or just for daily comfort.

Custom Sizing From Medi

Medi Canada can accommodate patients with any body habitus that is outside their sizing ranges.  This unique opportunity allows us to ensure proper fit and style, whether its due to leg shape or height, a custom stocking can be created.

Patients measuring outside the standard size chart will be measured again at a separate appointment. These measurements are then sent to the factory in Germany, where a unique garment will be made. This takes up to 20 business days, so patients are accommodated appropriately before their procedure.

Wearing compression stockings as directed is one of the simplest and most effective ways to support your recovery and ensure the best possible outcome. If you have questions about sizing, fit, or how to use your compression stockings correctly, our team is here to help.
