Patient Information
Pre- and Post-Procedure Details
Welcome
Here you will find the information needed prior to your specific procedure, as well as post procedure information regarding what to expect and concerns you may have.
Please refer to the dedicated information page specific to the procedure you have had done. This will help clarify any questions you may have and how to relieve any discomfort you may be experiencing.
If you are unsure of any of the information you are given, please contact us.
Please keep in mind we are a by-appointment-only clinic. We will try to respond to your questions as quickly as possible. Send a picture of the area of concern, include a full leg picture, and a description of what you are experiencing.
It is important to follow our recommendations. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen or naproxen) and warm compresses are essential to help relieve any initial discomfort you may be experiencing.
If any symptoms last longer than two days, please contact us.

Quick Answers (Patient FAQs)
Where can I find the instructions for my treatment?
On the procedure-specific page. Each page includes before-and-after care and a downloadable information sheet.
Is mild discomfort normal after treatment?
Yes. Mild aching, tenderness, or a “cord-like” feeling along a treated vein can be normal in the first couple of days.
What can I do for discomfort?
Unless otherwise advised by your clinician:
- Take an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen or naproxen as directed on the label.
- Apply a warm compress (a warm, damp washcloth) to the tender area for 10–15 minutes at a time, several times per day.
When should I contact the clinic?
If symptoms last longer than 2 days and you’re unsure about your post-procedure condition after reviewing the What to Expect info and looking at the images we’ve provided, email us at info@stratfordveinclinic.com.
Before Your Procedure
- Review the procedure page for any special preparation instructions.
- Arrange a comfortable plan for the first 24–48 hours after treatment (compression, light walking, and over-the-counter pain relief if appropriate).
After Your Procedure: What to Expect
It’s common to notice:
- Mild aching or tenderness along the treated vein
- Localized firmness or a “rope-like” feeling
- Slight bruising at injection or incision sites
These usually improve over the first 24–48 hours.
Self-Care for Comfort
- Anti-inflammatories: Consider ibuprofen or naproxen (follow the product label and any advice you’ve received from our team).
- Warm compresses: Apply a warm, damp washcloth to the area for 10–15 minutes, repeat several times per day.
- Light movement: Gentle walking helps circulation and recovery.
- Follow your procedure page: Some treatments have specific instructions (e.g., compression wear, activity limits). Always follow those first.
If you cannot take anti-inflammatories or have been told to avoid them, follow the guidance on your procedure page or advice from your clinician.
